My Favorite Fishing in Ohio

Author: Bruce Dellaposta

I have found over the years that my favorite fishing hole is Twin Creek in Southwest Ohio. For me it is local and I can take my kids and we just have a great time. The one thing that is important to me when I go fishing with my family is the ability to catch fish. There is nothing worse than to go for hours without much success. I am impatient and my kids can be just like me. While Twin Creek doesnt usually land us the big one, it does provide us with the joy of catching numerous small mouth and rock bass.

There is no big secret to our success. We just usually find somewhere along the creek that has easy access down to the water and a place to park my vehicle. Depending upon the water temperature will determine if we wear hip waders or just jump in with our shorts and shoes. Generally we wade up and down the creek looking for deeper water holes wear the current is not moving and there is a tree limb or brush lying in the water. This cover usually makes a good hideout for the fish. My favorite lure is an artificial crawdad with a bit of orange color. My kids tend to like to use wax worms or an artificial buzz bait with a shiner attached to it. These baits have proven to be very successful. We will cast our bait towards the tree limbs that are lying in the water and reel in the bait parallel with the limb. We have found that top water lures do not work here but rather something that will get down next to the bottom of the limb where the fish are hiding. We have caught small mouth ranging in size from 6 in length up to 12 long.

Of course I am no expert, this has been my experience at what works best in Twin Creek. There are numerous creeks just like this one all over the country and they can produce some good fishing. Most of all they can provide hours of enjoyment with your family. Just always remember to be safe and dont wade the creek if water level is above normal pool levels. Good Luck!
