Mood Vs Temperament

Author: Nilesh Gore

Lets see Temperament & mood face to face. When we observe people we either see temperament i.e. nature, temper, personality of a person or we check the mood of a person whether he / she is sad, happy, angry, etc. Mood & temperament might indicate similar emotions so lets elaborate & differentiate them in detail.

The consistency of a specific type of emotional responses determines the "TEMPERAMENT" . Temperament is a outlook of the personality which is exposed in the tendency & predisposition to experience moods.

The exceptional attribute of a temperament is that its likely to be persistent and, as such, show which emotion plays a influential role in the persons life.

On the other hand, MOOD is a temporary emotional reaction. Mood & temperament might indicate similar emotions but TEMPERAMENT INFLUENCE THE PERSONS CHARACTERISTICS OF ADJUSTING OF LIFE WHILE MOOD INFLUENCES ONLY THE PRESENT PATTERN OF ADJUSTEMENT.

Because of the persistency of a temperament, we can predict how a person will react & response to at certain circumstances with an extent. We can't guess & predict the person's mood will be at any specific time or moment. But if we know that a person has personality / character or his nature is averagely cheerful & happy then we can be sure that he will not respond / react irritated or annoyed even over the small problem, instead he will may solve it pleasantly.

By distinguishing, the person who has ruthless nature or temperament, he can respond with rigid & anger with same amount to the nature of problem or obstacle.

He can also develop an attitude to express his anger and rigid-ness as he did it consistently (habitually) in the past by his out bursting temperament, by blaming, criticizing, abusing / attacking verbally or physically for a problem / failure / obstacle on the person / thing / pet or whoever & whatever may be.

Although MOODS influence to respond in the similar way as temperament and responses are less obvious. As compare to the temperament MOODS are the short-lived / temporary emotions and doesn't signify the person's habit of reacting emotionally. Moods are determined by the emotional state of a mind & can change frequently time to time. Just like u may eat snacks while watching movie or having tea / coffee in variation.

So the major difference is that moods are short living & temperament arelong living. Always remember We are what we repeatedly do. So it is better to analyze your temperaments by comparing good, bad & ugly.

Thanks for your time consideration
