True Reward is to Ward Off Expectations

Author: Sharmila Sanka

To ward off the attitude to receive something in return is true reward. Selfless love expects nothing in return. It is always giving and forgiving and not getting and forgetting. Human being acquired this human birth due to his merits and it is his sense of duty to live up to it. The concept of Reward comes to mind only after the word Expectations.

Expectations are imaginations or thoughts on our part that the other person whom we do respect, love or care fulfils them undoubtedly. Nothing is wrong in having expectations. After all, life is an Ocean of Expectations to an optimistic man. He hopes his friends- dear and near to play a vital and encouraging role in his dramatic life. But when his expectations shatter when not fulfilled by them, he goes down to the level of utter disappointment. He goes to extreme ends thinking he should not expect anything from any person in the whole world itself. He slowly acts as a break to his good relationship with his friend and from then onwards misunderstanding occupies both their hearts and minds. Misunderstandings are always waiting to be happened.

Is it wrong not to live up to anothers expectation? When one person has the right to expect from others, doesnt the other person have the liberty to forbid himself from doing certain things? After all, life of a man is always towards freedom and choice.

Every experience should be a lesson. Every lesson should be an addition to our miraculous chapter of life. Only then will the book of Realization occupy a little place in each and every heart in the world spreading happiness through out. Ones expectation need not be a necessity to the other. Expectations lead to disappointment. So true reward is not to expect anything in return, but still perform ones own duties and there by escape the effects of Karma be it good or bad.

The only eternal reward a child can give to his parents is to love them in return. Child's caring words and love are all those that matter to parents.

God created man to live and share his human qualities of love, sympathy, compassion and purity with other beings. So it is man's duty to offer himself to God as a reward of thankfulness by being and becoming pure and selfless love. This is his greatest reward he could ever give to God.

Serving hands are holier than the lips that pray. So involve in service to society. That service should be selfless and without a motive to receive reward. That is the true reward God expects from humanity. Riches do not reward oneself with happiness. It is selfless service and love which crown a human being with the reward of ultimate happiness.

Service doesnt co-exist with Reward. It only means to serve with no expectation of reward. - Sharmila Sanka
