Mega Catamaran News in 2005 Snapshot of an Exiting Year

Author: Alex Padilla

As we predicted it, 2005, saw an unparallel number of developments, projects, new designs, new constructions, and completions. More space, stability, comfort, speed, better fuel economy are all the reasons for the increased activity. Our study shows an increase in the number of clients who had previously owned monohulls, are now looking at the Mega Catamarans as a better solution for their next boat. It is exciting that now people can see proof of quality finish, matched with function and performance in Mega Catamarans that are equal or even surpassing sailing monohulls, and power yachts.

January 2006, news clips

GEMINI, the 145' VPLP design Super Catamaran; project is currently well under way, at Derecktor's Shipyard with possible launching late 2007.

Blubay is ready to prove that they are a top notch design team who can create a superb 100' Mega Catamaran.

Yapluka's 70' catamaran, hull # 3, is well on her way to completion, late spring launching is predicted. A new 62' with fly bridge is also under construction. There is talk of an 85' Mega Catamaran project to start soon.

Alliaura Marine just sent us photos of the 745, she is moving! And soon in to the water, launching date is planned for early February.

Exclusive Marine, ExclusivE 72, a top of the range cruising catamaran created by ExclusivE Marine, designed by the Gilles Ollier Design Team and built by Multiplast. Three months after the official presentation of the yacht at the Cannes International Boat Show in September 2005, ExclusivE Marine has just entered its first order for an Exclusive 72 in its books from a Caribbean based charter company.

Sunreef will have the new 60' Mister T displayed at the Miami International Boat Show. It is also reported that the company is starting construction on a 67 ft power catamaran, with engines up to 2x 850HP, made of composite.

Matrix 76' will be exhibiting a Silhouette 760 at Miami Boat Show.

""Zingara", our second Silhouette 760 departed from Cape Town bound for Miami. In the first 24hrs she logged 240nm and reached 20.3 kts. We are confident that she will break the 300nm barrier before reaching Miami." Reported by Peter Wehrley company CEO.
