Home Air Conditioners And Your Health

Author: Mark Gardner

With temperatures continuing to rise and the longer summers that we seem to face, the need for some kind of air conditioner within your home is vital. There are some that can get by with a fan; others can only manage by using an air conditioner. There are even some folks who find they need additional air conditioners to keep cool. However, when using your air conditioners, you need to take care of the temperature you set, if you set too low a setting, it could actually affect your health! Changing from a cool environment to intense heat in a short time could give you some problems.

In many areas of the U.S., temperatures can stretch into the 90s or even higher during some hot summer days. When faced with this heat, there are some folks who set their air conditioners too low, either in the 60s or lower. If youre staying indoors all day, you wont have a problem. But if you do leave the house, youre body will face an intense change in temperature. This sudden change can easily cause you a cold or chill. In some cases, the swift transformation in the bodys temperature can cause the body to go into shock because the body just hasnt had time to adapt.

When using an air conditioner, try and keep the temperature difference from the inside and the outside to a sensible level. Dont set your air conditioner too low.

Though many like to spend time in an air conditioned room on a hot day, you also need to make sure you drink enough water. Otherwise, the air conditioner could cause you to get dehydrated. However, a humidifier could help ease any worries about dehydration, as this will blow cool air in the room and helps keep the moisture within the air.
