When you're job searching, don't just stop at the level of education you have achieved. Employers appreciate knowing that their job applicants have an ongoing drive to improve and better themselves. And after all, learning is a lifelong process.

When you find a job that suits you, find ways to continuously upgrade, sharpen, and enhance your skills.

Taking additional classes'for example a course in public speaking, or an accounting class for managers or supervisors or whatever it is that applies to your specific job'show initiative and make the management aware you are serious about your career. When it is time for promotions, you're a cut above the rest.

Take a computer class, a foreign language, or a class for supervisors. Go to seminars on sales techniques and customer service. Many organizations will pay for these courses. When you go to seminars and workshops, you come face to face with the most reliable experts in the fields of self development. The information you gather from them is invaluable though if you don't put it into practice.

Organizations are always looking for individuals who can solve problems. For this, a creative problem-solving class will benefit you. Problem-solving is a vital process that we are faced with every day. Each of us has developed our personal problem-solving style comprised of our own perceptions and ways of thinking. Our normal tendency is to choose the first practical action that comes to mind. In our rush to solve a problem, our choices may turn out to be marginally acceptable or merely satisfactory. Problem-solving courses enhance your ability to solve problems by going through tried and true methods and steps.

Take a business writing class. Or join a local Toastmasters organization, or a Probus, or rotary club which teach you to think on your feet, speak professionally and improve your communication skills, as well as learn new leadership principles and techniques. These organizations will keep you involved with the community and also in touch with so many other professionals at every level.
