Are You Interested in Becoming an AdWords Affiliate?

Author: Christopher J Enders

Google, the most widely used search engine on the internet, has some incredible advertising programs that are taking internet businesses to new levels. The Google advertising programs are called AdWords and AdSense. One is for advertisers and the other is for webmasters who want to make money from their websites. With some creative copywriting and content development, webmasters can truly make loads of money using the AdSense program.

There is a buzz around the internet about Google having an AdWords affiliate program. Obviously, there are a lot of people interested in becoming an AdWords affiliate due to the popularity of Google AdWords amongst internet marketers. As an AdWords affiliate, you certainly could make a lot of money if you were to refer advertisers because the AdWords advertising program is incredibly popular.

The truth of the matter; however, is that Google does not have an AdWords affiliate program, or at least they don't call it that. What they do have is a Google AdWords Referral Program. The AdWords Referral Program is sometimes called an AdWords affiliate program because for all practical purposes it really works a lot like an affiliate program, but there are some definite differences. To participate in the Google AdWords Referral Program, you have to fill out an application to be approved by Google. Once Google approves your participation in the program, you can place graphics or links on your website to refer advertisers to Google's AdWords advertising program.

The Google AdWords Referral Program is not really an AdWords affiliate program because with affiliate programs, you can generally promote the affiliate program through various internet marketing methods. Google; however, does not allow affiliates to promote their services through email or through other methods that are common to affiliate marketing. Rather, Google permits referral program participants to place their graphics or links on a website for the purpose of referring advertisers to the Google AdWords program. You cannot participate in the Google AdWords Referral Program if you do not have a website.

Another common question I hear is in regard to the income potential of an AdWords affiliate. Unlike most affiliate programs that pay a percentage of sales made through affiliate referrals, Google's AdWords Referral Program pays a flat fee of twenty- dollars in U.S. dollars to participants who refer a qualifying advertiser to the Google AdWords program. For the referral to count it has to be considered a completed referral meaning that the advertiser has to spend twenty-dollars on AdWords advertising.

On the flipside of the Google AdWords program is Google's AdSense program which adds a touch of originality to the Google advertising programs and really makes them highly desirable for advertisers as well as website owners. There is sometimes some confusion among those who are not familiar with Google's advertising programs because I have heard the AdSense program referred to as an AdWords affiliate program.

AdSense is associated with AdWords, but it is not an AdWords affiliate program. It is; however, an excellent program for webmasters to make money from their websites. The purpose of the AdSense program is to display Google ads that are relevant to the website's content on your website. Because the AdSense program displays advertisements that are so closely related to the website content, it is advantageous to webmasters because the advertisements are actually of interest to website visitors. When the website's visitors click on the Google ads, the website owner gets paid for each click.

Content is key to making money from Google ads. Thus, creative copywriting that provides high quality information is necessary to filter in relative advertisements that website visitors will actually click on. What is really great is, the Google ads are not intrusive. They display a headline and a brief explanation of what the advertising website is all about. The program is unique in that the process of matching advertisers to content is automated so when you participate in the AdSense program, you no longer have to beat the bushes to find paying advertisers that actually have websites that are relevant and interesting to your website visitors.
