SPAM and Popups Have Failed

Author: Aleem Khan

More and more spammers are realising that SPAM has failed. Popups are also on the decline. One major local daily newspaper removed its popups this week. I hope for their sake this is permanent. Maybe someone told them it was annoying.

If you want to guarantee yourself a negative spot in your potential buyers minds, use popups or SPAM as a means of advertising. Sure, you might catch one or two but the majority will develop a very poor perception of your business.

Do YOU like SPAM? Then don't expect others to like it.

Some would argue that direct mail facilitated by the local postal company works fine and model their SPAM on this. However, there are critical differences and these are that (1) the recipient can easily throw them away when it comes in a physical mailbox and (2) it costs the recipient nothing. The paper it's printed on was paid for by the advertiser. The fee to send it out was paid for by the advertiser.

On the World Wide Web, however, most people pay for their connections Internet connections and mailboxes have limits. So sending rubbish into another person's Inbox is actually costing that person something. I don't recall the full details but there was a study done on SPAM that showed that about 30% of employees' time is wasted deleting SPAM.

Some of the "free" e-mail services are of course entitled to SPAM you, if you read their agreements carefully. That's how they make money, by selling ads. Most people don't read the fine print when they're signing up for these addresses. In any case, as we always say, it's just better to GetYourNAMEin.com and avoid the so-called free e-mail services. Nothing is free in life, someone somewhere along the line pays. In any case, it looks more professional to GetYourNAMEin.com
