What is an Information Product?

Author: Bill Boyd

I first heard this term a short time ago when I was reading a training manual.

It is simply something that you or I or anyone can manufacture for free and sell for thousands! Thanks to the technology available to us today.

People have always paid for information, no, matter what it is. It can be information about changing a tire without a wheel brace, or how to split atoms at home!

Everyone has something that someone else wants, and those people are willing to pay money for it.

Look at the internet boom, what are most people offering? Information on how to make money online! "If you copy me" etc this seems to be the theme that I've come across most often.

I think that's because it's so easy to produce, just copy someone else's email and change a few things then package it up and bingo! You've got yourself an information product that uses all the powerful human emotions of greed, desire and jealousy to sell itself.

It's unfortunate but that's the way I see it. Now, this doesn't mean that all information products are bad. There are many people out there that offer quality advice from personal experience.

I personally haven't made any money from the internet, so I'm not giving any advice here about making money. I have however been in the information product business, off line for many years. So I can say this: Everyone has different needs, styles and wants; therefore, when assessing an information product I always look for a statement that says something like: "This works for me, but it might not work for you"

To all existing and potential information product marketers.

I sincerely wish you good luck and happiness
